Backups
Backups can never be overstressed. Data failiure is inevitable, it is a matter of when your hardware is going to fail or your data gets corrupted. The frequency of your backups will depend on how often your data changes. A good scheme to follow is a full data backup at the begining of the week, followed by either diferential or incremental daily backups.Diferential backups all date changes since last full backup which means the backup process takes longer the further you go from the full backup date.Restoration on the other hand requres only two sets of data files the full backup and the last diferential set. While the incremental backup stays fairly short since you only backup the changes from each backup. The disafvantage is that when you need to restore the datat you going to need the full backup and all the susequent incremental backups which would be a longer process than the diferential process. If your data changes by the minute a more frequent backup might be necessary. As a rule of thumb several full backup sets should be kept incase a set gets corrupted or damaged. It is also critical that you keep an offsite backup incase of disaster like fire or earthquake.
